Charlotte 49ers Name Next Head Football Coach – Spectrum News

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte 49ers have their next head football coach, again.

Will Healy, the 2017 Football Championship Subdivision Coach of the Year from Austin Peay is heading into the Goldmine, that’s according to several reports Tuesday. Healy will become the 49ers second coach in history.

“I am very pleased to welcome Will and Emily Healy to the UNC Charlotte community,” said UNC Charlotte Chancellor Phil Dubois. “Will’s energy, coaching success, and passion for this job make him an excellent choice to lead the Charlotte 49er football program.”

The 49ers thought they had their coach in Mike Houston. Houston wished to listen to other offers. Charlotte moved on and in Healy, they get a 33-year-old coach that went 13-21 in three seasons at the helm going 0-11 in 2016, 8-4 in 2017, and then 5-6 this past season.

Healy was named the Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the year in 2017, along with earning the Eddie Robinson trophy for top coach in the FCS.
